Karanto began producing wine under the Karanto Vineyards label in 2002 with the production at Matilda Plains Winery of a small parcel of Shiraz from our best blocks, and each year since we have continued to source small amounts of our best fruit for this wine.

Our first shiraz, the 2002 vintage, was awarded 5 stars and top of class by Winestate Magazine and the following vintage, the 2003, was judged 'Champion Wine' of the 2006 Langhorne Creek Wine Showcase. The 2004 7A Shiraz followed with quite a few awards, topping off with also winning Champion Wine of the Show and top of the Shiraz Class at the 2008 Langhorne Creek Wine Showcase.

In 2006 a Pinot Grigio was added to our range and the 2007 vintage of this wine won the Trophy for 'Best Sparkling, White or Rose,' at the 2008 Langhorne Creek Wine Showcase.  We are also experimnting with Italian varietals, Aglianico and Primitivo (red) and Fiano and Greco di Tufo (white).  Our first batch of Aglianico was made from the 2007 vintage and has proved to be a high quality variety winning many awards, highlighed by the Trophy and Gold medal for 'Other Italian Red Varietals' at the Winewise Small Vigneron Awards 2009.

Former 'Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year' Briony Hoare now oversees the production of our wines and our Primitivo, Aglianico, Fiano and Greco di Tufo varieties are being sold under her label, Beach Road Wines.  The Fiano 2009  won the 'Best White Wine' at the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show 2010 held in Mildura and the Greco di Tufo 2009 won the Chairmans Award for 'Wines to watch'.  Since then, many awards have followed, and from 2012, Briony has taken over completely our alternative varieties and made them under her own brand Beach Road Wines.

Our own brand, Karanto, is winding down, with only 2 red varieties on sale, but continuing the growing of high quality premium grapes.

From 2016 we have stopped selling our wine to concentrate on our premium grape quality.
